ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ: ಎಸ್ ಜಯಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ರಾವ್

ನಾನು ಪ್ರಾಸದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಲೆಕೆಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ

ನಾನು ಪ್ರಾಸದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಲೆಕೆಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.  ಎರಡು ಮರಗಳು,

ಒಂದರ ಪಕ್ಕ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು, ಒಂದನ್ನೊಂದು ಹೋಲುವುದು ವಿರಳ.

ನನ್ನ ಯೋಚನೆ, ಬರಹ, ಹೂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಣ್ಣವಿದ್ದ ಹಾಗೆ,

ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಸುವ ಪರಿ ಉತ್ತಮಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆಯೇ,

ಯಾಕೆಂದರೆ, ನನ್ನ ಹೊರ ರೂಪವಾಗಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಾನು 

ಇರುವಂತಹ ದಿವ್ಯ ಸರಳತೆ ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ನಾನು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಮನ ಕರಗುತ್ತದೆ,

ನೆಲದ ಇಳಿಜಾರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು ಹರಿಯುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಮನ ಕರಗುತ್ತದೆ,

ನನ್ನ ಕಾವ್ಯವು ಗಾಳಿಯ ಕದಲಾಟದಂತೆಯೇ ಸಹಜ.

I don’t worry about rhyme. Two trees, 

One next to the other, are rarely identical. 

I think and write the way flowers have color, 

But how I express myself is less perfect, 

For I lack the divine simplicity 

Of being only my outer self. 

I look and I am moved, 

I am moved the way water flows when the ground slopes, 

And my poetry is natural like the stirring of the wind...
