Dear friends ... here is my Kannada translation of another English poem by the new generation Kenyan poet, CLIFTON GACHAGUA (b. 1987), LOST STONES ... this poem is also from Clifton Gachagua’s collection, “The Madman at Kilifi” ...
I’m still wondering if I got the poem right ... this one haunts me ...
LOST STONES
CLIFTON GACHAGUA, KENYA
ಬನ್ನಿ ಈಗ ನನ್ನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾದ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳತ್ತ;
*****
LOST STONES
Now follow me to lost stones;
all this I beg you.
Collecting dust, offer distractions for
a second, experiencing rain as
stones never to be picked up.
Follow me to the dust. See
how lost some stones can be.
