Kannada original: YAARU NEE KAVITE ಯಾರು ನೀ ಕವಿತೆ
Poet: MUDNAKUDU CHINNASWAMY
English translation: S. JAYASRINIVASA RAO
WHO ARE YOU, POEM?
Who are you, poem?
Are you the kernel of the tormenting words in the nether-world’s womb?
Are you the shadow of the mountain of imponderable meanings?
Where are you hidden?
Are you the frozen dew drop of dawn?
Are you the rain that did not pour down from the cloud-mountain?
How do you look? Tell me!
Are you the hungry stomach’s anguish?
Are you the homeless old man’s agony?
Are you the invisible eternal truth? Tell me!
Are you the infant’s laughter hidden in the song of love?
Are you the flower blooming in the bee’s pollen secreted away?
The poem said:
You can call me the dawn in the depths of darkness
You can call me the darkness that has enveloped light
The poem says:
You can call me the illusion that yesterday existed
You can call me the life that is tomorrow holding a walking stick
