CALM BEFORE DAWN - SUBRAYA CHOKKADY'S 'NISHAANTHA' ನಿಶಾಂತ

Kannada original: ನಿಶಾಂತ Nishaantha

Poet: Subraya Chokkady

Translated into English by: S. Jayasrinivasa Rao

CALM BEFORE DAWN

Across the mist-blanketed path

the sound of the night sliding past

its echo resonating

among the leaves,

in the mysterious swirls of the lake,

in the cascading fragrance of the blossoming buds,

in the silence of the mountain peak,

on the eyelids of the sky...

Adding their cadence to

the rhythm of this movement

are the heartbeats of those

who are still deep in slumber and

tiny footsteps in birds’ nests ...
