SHIVA’S COME FOR ALMS - H. S. SHIVA PRAKASH'S "Shivanu Bhikshake Banda" ಶಿವನು ಭಿಕ್ಷಕೆ ಬಂದ

Kannada original: Shivanu Bhikshake Banda ಶಿವನು ಭಿಕ್ಷಕೆ ಬಂದ

Poet: H. S. SHIVA PRAKASH

Translated into English by: S. Jayasrinivasa Rao

SHIVA’S COME FOR ALMS

Look, sister, look!  Shiva’s come for alms

Isn’t he good-looking!  Look, sister, look!

The Ganga on his head

The Naga coiled around his neck

His body covered with ashes from the burning pyres

He wears love-god’s severed head on his chest

Black clouds are his locks, the sun and moon his eyes

Burning bright and red is his middle eye

He wears no sandals on his feet

He roams all the three worlds’ streets

He comes riding an old bull

He asks for alms as if he’s broke

A home-wrecker he is, know that, O’ sister

Cast him out of your mind, O’ sister

From the clutches of such elder brothers,

Free me, O’ Father, O’ Shivalinga
