ಜಲಪಾತ JALAPATA - JULIAN KORNHAUSER'S 'WATERFALL'

Dear friends ... another poem by JULIAN KORNHAUSER ... and my Kannada translation of it ... the last two lines are clear enough while reading the English translation, but tricked me during the Kannada translation ... I thought I was not getting the same sense in Kannada ... I made three versions of these two lines ... have posted what I felt was good ...

ಜಲಪಾತ

 

ಧುಮ್ಮಿಕ್ಕುವ ನೀರು ಅಪ್ಪಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ

ಮೇಲಿನಿಂದ, ಆಕಾಶದಿಂದ, ಯಾರ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಿಂದಲೂ ಅಲ್ಲ

ಅದು ಬಡಿಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಗರ್ಜಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ನಮ್ಮ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯನ್ನು ಇಂಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೆ.  ಹಿಮ ನೋಡುತ್ತಲಿದೆ

ತನ್ನ ಹಿಮಕೋಲುಗಳ ಜತೆಗೂಡಿ, ಶಾಂತವಾಗಿ, ನಿರ್ಭಾವುಕವಾಗಿ.

ಕೆಳಗೆ ಬುಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಅನಿಶ್ಚಿತತೆ ಸುಳಿಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಬಂಡೆಯ ಮೇಲಿಂದ 

ಪುಟ್ಟ ಅಳಿಲೊಂದು ನಮ್ಮ ಫ಼‌್ಓಟೋ ತೆಗೆಯುತ್ತೆ.

ನಮ್ಮ, ಭಯಭೀತ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರ,

ತಳವಿಲ್ಲದವುಗಳ ದಾರ್ಶನಿಕರ, ಫ಼‌್ಓಟೋ.

WATERFALL

Rushing water beats down
from above, from the sky, of no one’s will
it strikes, roars,
absorbs our surprise. Ice watches
with its white icicles calmly, impassively.
Down below our uncertainty swirls.
From a small rock
a little squirrel photographs us.
Us, the tourists of fear, the philosophers of the bottomless.
