ಇಂದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಕವಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಬ್ರಾಯ ಚೊಕ್ಕಾಡಿಯವರ ಜನ್ಮದಿನ. ನನ್ನ ಕಡೆಯಿಂದ ಸುಬ್ರಾಯ ಮಾಷ್ಟ್ರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ‘ಬರ್ತ್ಡೇ ಗಿಫ಼್ಟ್’ ... ಅವರು ಬರೆದ ಕವನ ‘ಮೌನ-ಸಂಧಾನ’ವನ್ನು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್-ಗೆ ಅನುವಾದ ಮಾಡಿರುವೆ ... ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನನ್ನ ಕನ್ನಡೇತರ ‘ಫ್ರೆಂಡ್ಸ್’ ಗೆ ಸುಬ್ರಾಯ ಮಾಷ್ಟ್ರ-ರ ಕವಿತ್ವದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯವಾಗಲಿಯಂತ ... ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬದ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು ಸರ್ ...
Today is the birthday of our beloved Kannada poet Sri Subraya Chokkady ... I have a small ‘birthday gift’ for him ... SILENCE AND CONCILIATION
Facing the poet
who sat down to write,
is a book,
pages still lying open
eager to be filled.
Only, letters do not flash
and become words,
images do not apparate and
metaphors are elusive.
But these are dancing around
him playing hide-and-seek
in a happy world of their own.
The book with
immeasurably hungry eyes
looks at the poet facing it
like it wanted to swallow him
in a bid to sate itself.
But, the poet, sitting,
looks at the unwritten lines
spread all over the book,
reflects in nothingness
on the silence in them.
